CGA appoints maritime researches to Center for Maritime Policy & Strategy

New London — The U.S. Coast Guard Academy recently appointed three maritime researchers to the staff of the Center for Maritime Policy & Strategy.

Tiffany Smythe and George A. Stetson were named post-doctoral fellows in maritime policy. Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Erin Adler was appointed as executive assistant for the center.

Smythe has extensive experience in coastal management and helped develop the Rhode Island Ocean Special Area Management Plan, one of the nation’s first marine spatial plans. Stetson’s research examines environmental conflict and natural resource governance arrangements between private companies, governmental agencies and indigenous communities in maritime resource frontiers, including the Arctic.

Adler, an assistant professor of law at the academy, specializes in criminal and maritime law. Judith A. Youngman was also reappointed as interim director. For more information, visit www.uscga.edu/cmps.
