Marcus Green blocked a late field goal attempt and Montel Harris scored two touchdowns to lead Temple to a victory over South Florida in a Big East Conference matchup Saturday.

The game marked Temple's re-entry into the Big East after the Owls were kicked out of the conference in 2004.

Temple snapped a two-game losing skid with the victory, improving to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the Big East. After South Florida opened the season with a pair of victories, the loss was the Bulls' fourth-straight defeat, dropping them to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

"I thought our kids were scratching, and fighting and clawing and not relenting, and had two losses against two good football teams, and our kids never blinked," Temple coach Steve Addazio said. "This is a great win for our program. It's an emotional win. It's Temple back in the Big East Conference, our first Big East game making a statement that our program is headed in the right direction and we'll be a valued member in this conference."

Harris, a transfer from Boston College, erupted for a season-best 133 yards on 24 carries and two fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Cincinnati 52, Miami (Ohio) 14

Camerron Cheatham returned an interception 68 yards for a touchdown, and Cincinnati quarterback Munchie Legaux had a hand in three more touchdowns Saturday night, leading the Bearcats to a 52-14 victory over Miami (Ohio).

Cincinnati (4-0) has won the last seven in the oldest nonconference series in the nation. The Bearcats' defense starred last year in a 27-0 win, Cincinnati's first shutout in Oxford since 1898, and got them going again on Saturday.

Cheatham's interception put the Bearcats ahead to stay. The RedHawks (3-3) had four turnovers, including a season-high three interceptions thrown by Zac Dysert.

Legaux had touchdown passes of 11 and 19 yards, and ran 1 yard for a score. Cincinnati's George Winn also ran for a pair of touchdowns against a defense that has given up 56, 52, 49 and 39 points this season.

Late Friday

Syracuse 14, Pittsburgh 13

Adonis Ameen-Moore scored on 1-yard run, Dyshawn Davis returned a fumble 52 yards for another score, and Syracuse broke out of a yearlong funk with a victory over Pittsburgh.

Syracuse (2-3, 1-0 Big East) hadn't beaten a Football Bowl Subdivision team since last October, losing eight straight since a stunning win over a ranked West Virginia team. Syracuse also snapped a seven-game losing streak against Pittsburgh (2-3, 0-2), which had won two straight.

Both teams were coming off bye weeks, and this was their last meeting as members of the Big East. Both will join the Atlantic Coast Conference next season, and they will continue to play one another each year.

Navy to join early?

Big East Commissioner Mike Aresco says he will talk to Navy about the possibility of joining the conference earlier than its scheduled 2015 arrival as a football-only member.

Aresco spoke to reporters before UConn played at Rutgers on Saturday.

The Big East is on target to become a 12-team football conference next season, with the addition of Boise State and five other schools. The conference has made it clear that it will be in the market for a 14th member to balance out the league when Navy joins.
