Branford citizens are lucky to have an effective leader representing them in the State Senate. Senator Ed Meyer is a dedicated public servant that always has the needs of his constituents at the forefront of his decision making process. It is this dedication and commitment to serve his district that has earned Senator Meyer my vote for re-election to the 12th District Senate seat.
It is easy to write about his role as environmental champion in Hartford after he received another perfect score on legislative issues from The League of Conservation Voters, but Senator Meyer has also shown his ability to work to assist Connecticut's small businesses. His efforts to pass the Jobs Bill in the recent session have benefited 11 companies and created 148 new jobs specifically within the 12th Senate District.
Creating new jobs in Connecticut is obviously beneficial and looking even deeper reveals that some of these dollars are also benefiting the environment through creation of green jobs. Whether it was an organic gardening company that's developing new equipment and technology or a manufacturing company that creates equipment for solar power systems, there is growing evidence that economic expansion and protecting the environment aren't conflicting goals. In fact, with increasing demand for renewable energy sources, there will be needs for more green jobs in Connecticut and the country.
Senator Meyer has also successfully delivered state grants to Branford for supporting the Blackstone Library and completing a pedestrian walkway and enhanced lighting on the Town Green. He truly is a champion for the citizens of Branford.
I encourage your readers to me in casting a vote for Senator Meyer's re-election on Nov. 6!
Democratic Town Committee Vice Chair Chris Sullivan serves on the RTM 6th District.
