New London — City police are investigating a stabbing of a 22-year-old man on Garfield Avenue Saturday morning.

The stabbing occurred shortly before 8:40 a.m. at 151 Garfield Ave., police said in a news release. The victim, who was stabbed in the chest, is being treated at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.

The victim knew the suspect, and the attack is believed to have been a “family violence type of incident,” police said in the release.

Police are not releasing the victim’s or suspect’s names at this time.
