Judge dismisses larceny charges in oldest case on docket

Superior Court Judge Arthur C. Hadden has dismissed larceny charges against Richard Wallace, who had been accused of stealing more than $100,000 from an elderly friend.

Wallace's was the oldest case on the docket in the New London major crimes court.

Defense attorney Donald Beebe had filed a motion of fair judgment of acquittal after the state rested its case last week in New London Superior Court. The judge granted the motion Wednesday after reviewing written arguments from both sides.

Prosecutor Stephen M. Carney said it had been a difficult case involving years-old financial transactions.

"We have no quarrel with the judge's decision." Carney said.
