H.S. boys' basketball: Fleming dismissed as Fitch coach

Groton - Chad Fleming, Fitch High School's first-year boys' basketball coach, was dismissed effective immediately, athletic director Marc Romano confirmed Tuesday night.

"It was an administrative decision," said Romano, who declined further comment because it was personnel issue.

Junior varsity coach Ryan Magee will serve as interim head coach the rest of the season, Romano said.

The Falcons, 3-10 overall and 2-4 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division, play at division leader Woodstock Academy tonight.

Fleming, when reached for comment Tuesday night, said: "I'm very disappointed with the way things turned out. It's unfortunate, but I wish the kids in the program nothing but the best in moving forward."

Fleming is the second ECC head coach to be replaced in the middle of the season. Stonington boys' coach Tim Payne resigned on Jan. 16 and was replaced by Kevin Dipollino on an interim basis for the rest of the season.
