GETTIN' MUDDY FOR KIDS Mud Run
Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern CT and Fields of Fire Paintball Park in Mystic present our inaugural GETTIN' MUDDY FOR KIDS Mud Run!!! It's is a family friendly version of the the Original Mud Run, Spartan Race, Warrior Dash, Tough Mudder, etc. Hence, we will have obstacles throughout our 5k trail run but there will not be extreme obstacles with such things as barbed wire, electric fencing, ice water nor fire. Yet, it will still be plenty challenging! Whether you have done a mud run in the past or have always wanted to this is the one for you! And all proceeds got to a GREAT cause!!
As we at Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern CT are youth based, we are encouraging families to GETTN' MUDDY FOR KIDS. Those 10 and older may participate in the event along with a parent/guardian. And for our younger adventurers a Mini Mud Run Play Area will be fenced off for 6 years and older (with parent/guardian). Fields of Fire Paintball Park is our generous host and the site is amazing!!
Still not quite sure what a mud run is? Recently trending mud runs abound, but the Original Mud Run claims the distinction of being the first-ever military-style obstacle race for civilians. A core concept of a mud run is teamwork. Started by a band of Marines raising money for charity, the inaugural race, held in 1989 in Tustin, California, had 99 participants. For years, even before relocating to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in the late '90s, this production dominated the field. That's no longer true: Mud runs today are as packed as rock concerts, attracting as many as 25,000 registrants in a weekend. Their meteoric rise is hard to exaggerate; Warrior Dash, which began in 2009 with one race and 2,000 people, is predicted to field more than 800,000 runners this year. Spartan Race also began in 2009 and will host around 750,000 this year.
As you can see, this is a huge trend currently and we at Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern CT along with Fields of Fire Paintball Park are thrilled to be bringing it to our community. Will you please join us in our mission? GETTIN MUDDY FOR KIDS Mud Run proceeds will all go directly to the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern CT. BGCSECT is a nonprofit after school program with a focus on education and character building that serves youth locally in Groton and New London.
We already have teams of participants registered from as far as Berlin, Westbrook, Central CT and Westerly, Rhode Island. Show your Southeastern CT pride and sign up today online at http://bgcse.org/mudrun.aspx!! If you don't want to participate we can use more volunteers too! :)
