State police said a woman who allegedly robbed three banks in Middlesex County while dressed as a man may be responsible for a bank robbery in East Lyme.
Police said Susan Braig, 29, formerly of Lyme, turned herself in Monday on a warrant at Troop F in Westbrook. The warrant charges her with the Nov. 2 robbery of TD Bank in Killingworth, the Dec. 6 robbery of the Liberty Bank in Durham and the Jan. 8 robbery of the First Niagara Bank in Essex.
Police also think she may be responsible for the Dec. 21 robbery of the Liberty Bank in East Lyme.
Police said as the investigation continued it became apparent that all three banks were robbed by the same individual — a female disguising herself to look like a male. Police also started to develop information that Braig may be linked to the robbery in East Lyme.
Police added that Hardwick Vermont police are also investigating a bank robbery for which she may be responsible.
Police said they developed information that the suspect was driving a red, wagon-type vehicle with Vermont registration plates. The information was passed along to surrounding local shoreline police departments. An Old Lyme constable spotted a similar vehicle in the town and reported the information to investigators.
This led investigators to interview Braig who, they said, confessed to the three robberies. Police said they expect to charged Braig on other robberies at a later date.
