UConn's Omar Calhoun has surgery on each hip

Guard Omar Calhoun had surgery on both hips in recent months, according to UConn.

Calhoun suffered from a common hip condition for athletes called femoral acetabular impingement. He underwent a surgical procedure on each hip that basically shaves bone to alleviate discomfort and helps to avoid future problems.

He had surgery on his left hip in late March and on his right hip in late April. He's expected to fully recover by early August.

Calhoun had a strong freshman season, averaging 11.1 points and 3.9 rebounds and starting the first 29 games before a right wrist injury forced him to miss the regular season finale. He ranked second on the team in 3-pointers made with 43.

He earned a spot on the All-Big East rookie team.
