The New London-based Southeastern Connecticut Enterprise Region has announced that the agency has been officially named an Economic Development District.
The U.S. Department of Commerce designation is given to applicants that have received federal and state approval for their Comprehensive Economic Strategy and are "vigorously pursuing" its objectives. SeCTer's strategy won approval in 2011.
Mark Oefinger, Groton town manager and chairman of the seCTer board, said the designation will be a help to local communities in seeking federal assistance and might ease acquisition of business financing.
