ACGOW hosts ‘After the Masters’ reception Friday

    “Cascades” by Richard Inserra (subitted)
“Pears in Glass Dish” by Laurie MacKenzie (submitted)

The Artists’ Cooperative Gallery of Westerly has announced “After the Masters” as its May show.

The theme, as exemplified by featured artists Laurie MacKenzie and Richard Inserra, is to use works by acknowledged masters as a jumping-off point for producing a whole new painting.

Inserra, an oil painter, is inspired by naturalist landscape geniuses like J.M.W. Turner and Frederic Church.

MacKenzie, whose pieces use watercolors or oil, is an artist and teacher who also owns a retail and art instruction business.

An opening reception for “After the Masters” takes place 5-7 p.m. Friday in the gallery, 14 Railroad Ave., Westerly. The exhibit runs Wednesday through June 2. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Visit westerlyarts.com or call (401) 596-2221.
