The Board of Education declined to extend Superintendent Pamela Aubin's contract or give her a raise at a special meeting on Tuesday night.

Aubin, who has been the superintendent since January 2010, has two years left on her contract with Montville. The board voted not to extend the contract until 2016.

The board voted 8-0 on the issue, which is a routine consideration at this time of the year, said Board of Education Chairman David Rowley. He said the board's evaluation of the superintendent starts in January and they consider the compensation package and terms of the contract in May.

"We don't have major concerns," said Rowley, who wouldn't provide details about the decision because it was discussed in executive session. "But we're also looking toward the future and possibly having changes made in the future."

In a statement sent to staff and colleagues, Aubin noted some of her accomplishments in Montville, including implementing full-day kindergarten, fundraising and keeping the schools safe and secure.

"Abraham Lincoln once said after losing an election, 'I'm too old to cry, but it hurts too much to laugh.' I suppose that characterizes my feelings at this time," Aubin said in the statement. "I want to assure you that I will continue to put forth my very best effort every day and continue the work of district improvement."
