New London police nab alligator on Broad Street

New London - New London Police said they captured a 3 1/2 -foot alligator on Broad Street this afternoon after a resident called to report the reptile in their front yard.
The resident called at about 12:28 p.m., according to a press release issued by Deputy Police Chief Peter Reichard. Officers arrived to see the alligator running down the sidewalk and into a small grass area off Broad Street.
They trapped the alligator and held it until the animal control officer arrived and caged the reptile, which was turned over to officials at the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
