Old folk, new folk with Marco Frucht
Singer-songwriter Marco Frucht strikes a delicate balance: his tunes show an appreciation of classic, working-dude folk music while, at the same time, sparkle with wit and gentle humor.
This is finely obvious on his "soffty fasnfftof" album - the title of which is an acronym for "Some Old Folk for the Young Folk and Some New Folk for the Old Folk."
Whether whimsically lamenting the lack of a verse structure in a particular tune, pondering sodium intake during a fast food visit, or pondering the night sky galaxies and Civil War-era drinking gourds, Frucht has an intriguing take on time-worn as well as fresh subjects.
Hear material from the record as well as traditional songs when he performs at 11 a.m. Friday at New London's Farmers' Market in the Parade Plaza.
