Connecticut principal demoted after state review
Waterbury (AP) — The principal of Waterbury's lowest-performing elementary school has been demoted following two performance audits.
The Republican-American reports Erik Brown has been demoted from his job at Walsh Elementary School to supervising vice principal at Kingsbury Elementary School, with a salary reduction over more than $6,600 to $95,762 a year.
The move comes after state auditors detailed problems with Brown's leadership at Walsh, including the alleged intimidation of staff. An independent audit commissioned by the school district echoed those concerns.
Brown filed a discrimination complaint in April with the state Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities after being told he was being removed as principal. In that complaint, he alleges racial discrimination and neglect of the inner-city school.
A message seeking comment was left with Brown's attorney.
