Former Eastern Pequot chairman to be tried in major crimes court

Former Eastern Pequot chairman Brian Geer, who is accused of stealing more $60,000 from the tribe’s treasury, will be tried in the major crimes section of New London Superior Court.

Geer, 47, of 633 Lantern Hill Road, North Stonington, made his second court appearance today after being charged by state police last month with first-degree larceny. Geer, who is represented by attorney Sikandar Rana, has not yet entered a plea.

During his court appearance today, he learned his case would be transferred from the Broad Street courthouse to the so-called “Part A” court on Huntington Street where serious felony charges are heard. His next court date is Sept. 24.

Geer allegedly used a credit card to deplete the tribe’s treasury while serving as the tribal chairman. He told state police detectives he used the funds to support a drug-addicted woman and her daughter.

He is free on a $100,000 bond while the case is pending.
