Webster Bank president resigns
A top executive of Webster Financial Corp. seen as a likely successor to Chief Executive James C. Smith will be leaving the company within a week.
Webster Bank President and Chief Operating Officer Gerald P. Plush, 54, is resigning to pursue other career interests, the bank said in an announcement today. His last day will be Sept. 30.
The bank’s stock fell 3 percent in midafternoon trading.
Plush rose in the ranks at Webster over the past seven years, starting in a role as executive vice president and obtaining his current title and a position on Webster’s board of directors in 2011.
