Restaurant Week a chance to try something new

Restaurant weeks are popping up all over but one of the best happens every fall in Westerly.

As Jill Blanchette wrote this week, an always-interesting restaurant scene in Westerly has grown ever more vibrant.

For $15 for lunch and $25 for dinner you get a three-course meal, so this is a great opportunity to try one of Westerly's many new eateries.

Amigos Taqueria and Tequila has opened in the former Dylan's on Canal Street. For dinner you might choose an app of a mini chimichanga with chicken rice beans served with ranchero sauce, an entree of roast pork loin in cumin mango glaze with fried tortilla smothered in tomatilla salsa, chaapote carrots scallions mixed vegetable, and a dessert of plantain bread pudding.

Next door, at The Brazen Hen, you can begin lunch with Rhode Island stuffies, move on to bangers and mash and finish up with tiramisu.

Or wander across the street to The Twisted Vine, and after soup or salad, order an entree of braised short ribs over mashed potatoes, and end the night with apple crisp a la mode.

Other relatively new restaurants include the Sea Goose Grill & Raw Bar on Route 1, Trattoria Longo on Canal Street (formerly Bruna's Table), Ella's on Tower Street and The Haversham on Route 1.

This is a hugely popular event, so you should make reservations if possible.
