Norwich — A home was briefly evacuated Tuesday afternoon following the discovery of what turned out to be an inactive grenade outside a residence at 145 Washington St., police said.

The 1:41 p.m. discovery promoted response by police and the state police bomb squad. The area was cordoned off as a precautionary measure, and police say it was later determined that the pineapple-style grenade contained no explosive charge.
