Since we first met in the mid-1980s, I have been impressed with Margaret Mary "Peg" Curtin's love of the City of New London, her passion for public service and her deep commitment to engaging people in civic life.
My respect for Peg's leadership and dedication to this city has only grown throughout the years. Under Peg's leadership as co-chair of the School Building and Maintenance Committee, the Science and Technology Magnet School and the new Jennings School were successfully designed and constructed.
While serving as Mayor Curtin she formed the Mayor's Sports Complex Commission, the result of which is the new, state-of-the-art athletic complex at New London High School. As president of the Board of Education, Peg initiated joint meetings with City Council and regular meetings. Peg also formed a seven-member Advisory Committee on Achievement Gap Data to assist the school board in obtaining information before it votes on education policy and operating decisions.
I know of no public official more dedicated and hard working than New London's Peg Curtin.
On Nov. 5, please vote 8B to re-elect Margaret Mary Curtin to the New London Board of Education.
