Connecticut woman accused of beating puppy to death

Bridgeport (AP) — A Bridgeport woman accused of beating her poodle puppy to death and then burying it in her backyard has been arraigned.

The Connecticut Post reports Rommy Rodriguez saying "Obviously, it's not true" as she left Bridgeport Superior Court Thursday after a judge reduced her bond from $10,000 to a promise to appear in court.

The 23-year-old Rodriguez was arrested at her home Thursday and charged with cruelty to animals.

Rodriguez is due back in court on Dec. 5.

Police say a necropsy determined the dog died from blunt force trauma to its head.

A neighbor told police he often heard the puppy crying after allegedly being beaten by Rodriguez and recently heard the dog's crying growing fainter as the beating went on for 20 to 30 minutes.
