Charlie Wilson in concert at MGM Grand at Foxwoods

Published November 21. 2013 4:00AM

He's the man: Charlie Wilson has been on a roll. His single "There Goes My Baby" was named Billboard's top urban adult song of 2009, and he was the magazine's top adult R&B artist that year. He nabbed a Grammy nom for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for that song and for Best R&B Album for "Uncle Charlie." Not bad, right? His follow-up was just as popular. The CD "Just Charlie" produced the single "You Are," which had a 13-week romp atop the Billboard urban adult contemporary chart. "You Are" was nominated for a pair of Grammys, for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song.

Bridging the Gap: Charlie and his brothers Robert and Ronnie had a long run as The Gap Band - one of their big hits was "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" - but they retired the group in 2010.

Cry uncle: Wilson's nickname is "Uncle Charlie" - thanks to his pal Snoop Dogg. They're such good friends that Snoop and his wife renewed their vows in 2008 at Wilson's California ranch.

Other friends in high places: Kanye West recruited Wilson to sing on his "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" CD in 2011. Among the tunes Wilson appears on are "See Me Now," with West and Beyoncé, and "Monster," with West, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross.
