There is much misinformation in the media regarding the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). The president is being accused of "lying" when he stated that, if you wanted, you could keep your policy in effect on the date of the act in 2010. This is still true! It is also true that the insurance industry, in general, cancelled those policies that don't meet the new requirements of the act.
There is nothing in the Affordable Care Act which prevented the insurance industry from keeping your policies that were in effect. The industry cancelled the policies for one or both of the following reasons: They honestly felt the improvements required by the act are the right thing to do for the public; or, they know they will make more profit with the increased requirements.
Understand what your cancelled policy really provided, look at the differences with the replacement policy - you get what you pay for.
