    Committee studying correlation between cancer, nuclear facilities to host public meeting

    The National Academy of Sciences committee planning the pilot study analyzing cancer risks in populations near nuclear facilities will host a public meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 11 at the National Academy of Sciences.

    The Millstone Power Station in Waterford and the decommissioned Connecticut Yankee plant in Haddam Neck are among seven nuclear facilities nationwide that will be part of the study.

    Members of the public unable to attend may listen to the meeting through a toll-free telephone line or view the presentations via WebEx. Members of the public interested in calling in or viewing the WebEx should contact Wingo by Dec. 9 for instructions.

    The study will entail epidemiologic studie of multiple cancer types of populations of all ages and of cancers in children.
