Norwich man involved in standoff makes court appearance

Norwich — Anthony Lafemina, the 32-year-old Norwich man whose alleged threats led to an eight-hour standoff with heavily armed city police on Tuesday, made his first appearance in Norwich Superior Court on Thursday.

Judge Thomas Moukawsher issued a protective order in the case, despite protests by the woman involved in the domestic disturbance incident and named as the protected party in the order, court records show.

Lafemina, who is free on bond, was also ordered to undergo substance abuse and mental health evaluations.

Police were called to Lafemina’s 5 Great Plain Road home at about 2 a.m. Tuesday for reports of a domestic disturbance. Police called in their tactical unit after Lafemina initially refused to come outside and talk to officers and, according to police, threatened to harm the home and the officers outside.

Police successfully negotiated his peaceful surrender by 10:30 a.m. that morning.

Lafemina is charged with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. The case was continued without a plea to Jan. 6.
