Daphne Lee Martin has CD release party

It's been fun watching (and listening to) Daphne Lee Martin explore and refine her songwriting and style over the years. It's hugely important that she's such a fan of all sorts of quality music and artists because, while she certainly has her own voice and estimable skills as a tunesmith, Martin has appropriated little bits and characteristics from a variety of delicious sources.

Clearly, after her previous album, "Moxie," and on its thematic successor, the brand-new "Frost," Martin has comfortably arrived as a chanteuse who can channel the sophisticated melodies of k.d. lang or Annie Lennox - and isn't afraid to embrace aural textures ranging from old-school New Wave synths and plucked back-porch banjo to post-millennial Dixieland and frisky electronica.

Help Martin celebrate "Frost" at a CD release/spring tour kickoff party Saturday at New London's Oasis Pub. Mission O appears in support.

    - RICK KOSTER

Daphne Lee Martin, 9 p.m. Saturday, Oasis Pub, 16 Bank St., New London; $5, $10 admission and digital download code, $15 admission and CD; (860) 447-3929, daphneleemartin.com.
