How is it already the end of another season?!

Elsewhere in these pages, I already used this amusing “farewell letter” gambit for the campaign-ending concert by the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra.

But it’s true both elite musical organizations are ending up their 2023-24 programming this weekend. I recommend getting plenty of sleep during the week so you can take advantage of both presentations.

Speaking of which, Musical Masterworks welcomes harpist Charles Overton, clarinetist Mark Dover and bassist Michael Thurber as they join artistic director/violinist Tessa Lark for Saturday night and Sunday matinee concerts. The program once again reflects Lark’s adept and creative fusion of repertoire, off-the-beaten tracks and new/original works.

The musicians will nuance a bill including Schumann’s Fantasiestucke, Op.73 (arr. for clarinet and harp); Jean Cras’s Suite en Duo, Eccles’s Double Bass Sonata; Nico Muhly’s A Hudson Style; and a finale of original compositions by the performers.
