The Noank Fire District will hold a special meeting on Thursday to decide whether to lease land on Brook Street for a cellular phone tower.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Noank Firehouse, and would authorize the district’s executive committee to sign a lease with a company to build the tower. Anyone who lives in Noank and has $1,000 of taxable property is eligible to vote at the meeting.
The 100-foot tower would be placed on a 60-by-60 foot area and have supports surrounded by opaque fencing. The tower would be built on property that formerly had a large water tank and houses a utility building the water company uses.
Fire District Chairman Frank Socha said the lease with Florida Tower Partners would pay the fire district $2,000 a month, with a 3 percent annual increase.
