Waterford - Rik Little sat on one side of the table by the green at Great Neck Country Club on Wednesday, talking about how he'd like more consistency from his inexperienced Waterford High School golf team.

Rudy Bagos, Little's East Lyme counterpart, talked about how his senior-heavy Vikings have yet to put a complete match together.

East Lyme is unbeaten. The Lancers are 7-4.

Everybody's got something.

"Yeah, we're close," Bagos said with a smile after a 6-1 win. "I'm proud of what they've done so far and really proud of how they played (Tuesday) against NFA (a 5-2 win), but I just feel like as a team, one-through-five, we haven't clicked yet.

"To be 10-0-1, we'll take it for sure."

Connor Callaghan shot a 41 to earn medalist honors for the Vikings.

"We got off to a really slow start (to the season)," Callaghan said. "Kind of the pressure of being seniors ... it's our last year, but we're starting to get back into our groove and I'm confident we can get back to full strength by the (Eastern Connecticut Conference) tournament."

Drew Bradley shot a 43 for East Lyme and Zach Kosakowski and Ross Krasner each shot 44s.

"I don't know if it's the senior thing or what, but I believe we're close," Bagos said. "I think we're all getting there. The one person I've been really happy and pleased and pleasantly surprised by is Ross Krasner. He's our five, and he's been consistent. … He's just a great kid and works hard and gets lessons, and it's nice to see it paying off.

"(Tuesday), to see him coming up the ninth hole with a big smile on his face after shooting a 41 was just awesome. It really was. I'm just really happy with what he's done."

Mitch Mirabito shot a team-best 44 for Waterford, while Stephen Lavoie and Matt Shea both shot a 47.

"We're inexperienced," Little said. "The only two we really have with varsity experience is Matt Shea and Mitch Mirabito. The rest of the guys, they've had their ups and downs.

"Today, Stephen Lavoie, who's been struggling and been in the 50s, is back in the 40s. There's some downs almost every match and there's some positives almost every match because they're young and inexperienced, and that's going to happen from time to time."

It's worth noting that the Lancers had just eight players last season, so the fact their numbers are up is a positive sign. More than once after Wednesday's match, Little pumped his fist after one of his players handed him his card.

"I'm very pleased," Little said. "The steps they're making, the strides they're making, how they come to work every day, I really couldn't ask for anything more from them yet. It's going to get to the point where we want more of them, but at this point right now, I'm pleased."

East Lyme is at the point Waterford would like to be. It has a chance to win the ECC Large Division and Bagos is hopeful his five senior starters will finish strong.

"In years past we've done well throughout the season, but when it comes to the ECC tournament, we haven't played well," Bagos said. "I've had these kids for four years. … I'd love to see the kids end their senior year with at least a good showing."
