New London man to serve five years for heroin trafficking
Ramon Garcia, who was arrested on heroin trafficking charges during a major drug sweep in the region in April 2013, was sentenced Wednesday to five years in federal prison followed by four years of supervised release.
Garcia, 41, of New London pleaded guilty in December 2013 to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Garcia and Xavier Cluff regularly purchased 100 to 150 grams of raw heroin from Luis Ariel Capellan Maldonado and distributed the drug to their own customer base in and around New London. The investigation identified Cluff and Garcia as Capellan Maldonado’s largest and most frequent purchasers of heroin.
Cluff pleaded guilty to the same charge and was sentenced last month to 70 months in prison. Capellan Maldonado has pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing.
