New London — A North Stonington man died Monday when his motorcycle crashed on an entrance ramp to Interstate 95 at the Gold Star Memorial Bridge.

Police said Timothy York, 64, of 31 Oak Drive, who was the building official in Colchester, was traveling northbound when the motorcycle fell onto its right side and traveled into the curbing in the left shoulder of the ramp.

The motorcycle then struck the metal guardrail, ejecting York from the vehicle, after which he struck a vertical support beam.

The motorcycle traveled across all northbound lanes of traffic on the bridge before coming to a final rest after striking a retaining wall.

York was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The on-ramp and two right lanes of the bridge were closed temporarily during the investigation. The accident happened around 12:30 p.m.
