Norwich — The Norwich NAACP branch’s 26th annual Juneteenth celebration will be held Saturday at Howard T. Brown Memorial Park at Norwich Harbor.
The event, which commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865, will start with a parade procession through Brown Park at 10 a.m. and will run to 6 p.m. There will be live music, dance demonstrations, drumming, speeches and an awards presentation.
Participants include the Norwich Free Academy Dance Team, NFA Chorus, the International Family Worship Center Step Team, Mixed Blessing Hand Drum Ensemble, Zumba with Aleisha Jenkins, the De 4 Ahwee Steel Drum Band and the Steve Marien Quintet with Nichelle Rollins.
The event is free and open to the public.
