Two honored with awards at Norwich Juneteenth

Norwich — A dedicated community volunteer and a graduating Norwich Free Academy senior were surprised Saturday with awards at the Norwich NAACP branch’s 26th annual Juneteenth celebration at Howard T. Brown Memorial Park.

Christine Jenkins of Norwich was named the recipient of the Dan Jenkins Memorial Community Service Award.

Kimberly Rosas of Norwich, who graduated from NFA Friday night, received the $1,000 scholarship award from the Haitian Health Foundation Lowney Family Foundation Scholarship Fund. The scholarship recognizes youth members of the NAACP for their academic success and community involvement.

Along with the awards ceremony, Juneteenth featured daylong activities, including live music, food and product vendors and demonstrations.
