Norwich — An 83-year-old Taftville woman who was injured Thursday when she was struck by a car driven by a 93-year-old driver died late Friday night, an official at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Monday.
Beverly Brown, 83, was hit at about 9:25 a.m. while crossing West Town Street in a crosswalk in front of the Samuel L. Huntington Elementary School, according to police. As she did every morning, Brown had taken a bus to the school to visit a kindergarten class as part of a TVCCA foster grandparent program, according to schools superintendent Abby Dolliver.
Police identified the driver as 93-year-old Arthur Chmura of Moosup.
Brown was treated at the scene and initially taken by American Ambulance to The William W. Backus Hospital. She was subsequently transferred to Hartford Hospital.
The medical examiner said that Brown died due to blunt force injury to her head, neck, torso and extremities and ruled her death an accident.
The investigation into the cause is ongoing and police said no charges have been filed against Chmura.
Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Officers Thomas Lazzaro or Andre Rosedale at (860) 886-5561 ext. 6.
