Groton taxpayers to get single bill for multiple vehicles

Groton – The town finance department is combining tax bills so that people who own multiple cars or vehicles receive one bill.

In prior years, a separate bill was sent for each motor vehicle, even if it was registered to the same person.

The new system began with tax bills mailed at the end of June. The town wanted to further combine bills, sending motor vehicle and real estate tax bills in the same envelope, but the tax software provider couldn’t do this because of Groton’s subdivisions and fire districts.

The finance department plans to work with the company to see if it can be done in the future, according to the town manager’s weekly status report.
