Wright opponent qualifies for public financing

Aundré Bumgardner, a Republican running for the 41st House District seat currently held by Democrat Elissa Wright, has been approved for public financing.

“I’m going to take the fight to the people and really look forward to knocking on thousands of doors throughout the district,” Bumgardner, 20, said Friday. “So far, support has been overwhelming.”

Under the state's campaign finance laws, he had to raise $5,000 in small donations of $100 or less from at least 150 people living in Groton or New London. He raised $5,530, he said.

He qualifies for an election grant of about $27,000, he said.
