Hamden (AP) — A Hamden man has been mauled by a dog while trying to help a turtle cross a local road.
Police say the restident, whose name has not been released, stopped his car on Evergreen Avenue last Tuesday and was trying to get a large turtle out of the road near Whitney Avenue when he was attacked by a longhaired black Labrador.
Police say the man suffered serious bite wounds to a forearm and a leg. He was taken by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Police did not release his condition.
Police are trying to identify the dog, who ran off, and its owner. They say the animal was wearing a collar.
