Groton – Town police arrested a New London couple Monday on charges they left an 8-year-old child unattended in a vehicle for 45 minutes while temperatures inside the car reached from 103 degrees to 114 degrees.

Responding to reports of an unattended child, police said they found the child in a vehicle outside a shopping center at 664 Long Hill Road with two windows partially open. The initial responding officers and witnesses described the child as very hot, but responsive and conscious, according to Groton Town Police Lt. John Varone. The child did not require medical treatment.

Ambiorix Rondon, 61, and Maria Rondon, 53, both of 56 Anthony St., Apt. B, New London, were charged with risk of injury to a child and leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle.

The married couple was released after posting $2,500 bonds and are scheduled to appear Aug. 11 in New London Superior Court. Police said they are not the mother and father of the victim but are related.

Do you believe Terrence P. Carter should be approved as New London's superintendent?
Yes. I agree with his statement that he has 'done nothing wrong.'
No. There have been many questions raised the past week that make me doubt whether he should serve as superintendent.
I'll reserve judgment pending the Board of Education independent investigation.
I'm not sure the media have been fair to Carter.
