    Public invited to march in Stonington parade

    Stonington — The Bicentennial Committee has invited the public to march in the Battle of Stonington bicentennial parade on Sunday, Aug. 10 as part of the Cannonball Society's section of the parade.

    The group will meet at 1 p.m. at the bottom of the viaduct. The parade is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. and travel down Water Street in the borough and back up Main Street to Wadawanuck Square. Participants are asked to dress in the style of 1814 or 1914 if possible or wear bicentennial T-shirts and hats.

    At 3 p.m. there will be a ceremony in front of the library. Expected to attend are Gov. Dannel P. wMalloy, representatives from area towns that sent reinforcements to the battle, state and local officials and representatives from the Navy, Coast Guard and the British Consulate.
