Groton man pleads guilty to convenience store robbery
A Groton man pleaded guilty Tuesday in New London Superior Court to charges that he attempted to rob a local convenience store.
Gary Frankopoulos, 39, formerly of 552A Shennecossett Road, will be sentenced Oct. 1 to six years in prison and four years of special parole for attempted second-degree robbery and violation of probation.
During the early morning hours on Jan. 27, Groton City police responded to the Avery Market on Shennecossett Road for a report of a robbery. Police said a man, later identified as Frankopoulos, implied he had a gun and demanded cash from the store clerk before fleeing the store.
At the time of his arrest, he was on probation for a 2011 robbery conviction.
