Groton — City police arrested a Brandegee Avenue man in Vernon this afternoon, charging him with seriously injuring a woman in a domestic disturbance at his home Tuesday night.

Eight children ranging in age from 1 to 12 were inside the home at the time, police said. One of the children sustained a minor injury.

Rasheen Perez, 35, of 70 Brandegee Ave. was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, first-degree unlawful restraint, criminal violation of a protective disorder, eight counts of risk of injury to a minor, third-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

Perez was being held on a $100,000 cash bond and a $40,000 cash/surety bond. He was scheduled to appear Friday in New London Superior Court.

Police arrived at the Brandegee Avenue address shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday and found the woman, who was taken by ambulance to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, where she was treated and released.

Perez had fled before police arrived.

Police obtained a warrant for Perez’ arrest and, with the help of Vernon police, located him at a relative’s home on West Street in Vernon.
