Ledyard — Eight years after the bridge on Shewville Road was inspected and rated as in “poor” quality, it was reopened Friday following a ribbon-cutting.
Mayor John Rodolico and Mashantucket Pequot Tribal National Chairman Rodney Butler met at the bridge at 11 a.m. to celebrate years of repair efforts.
The town and tribe reached a memorandum of understanding in 2007 to share the cost of repairing the bridge, which is frequently used by Mashantucket tribal members who live on the reservation. Although the tribe was originally going to foot a larger portion of the bill, the town and the Mashantuckets agreed last year to each pay 50 percent of the cost.
