Waterford — The Waterford Police Department charged five people with drunken-driving during its enhanced patrol period that began Aug. 14 and ended Monday.
During that time period, the department assigned one or two additional officers from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. to look for motor vehicle violations.
In addition to the driving-under-the-influence arrests, police issued 316 citations, including 122 for speeding, 20 for distracted driving, one drug charge and two felonies.
The campaign was part of the Federal Highway Safety Program in accordance with the 2014 Fiscal Year Connecticut Highway Safety Strategic Plan.
