Brilliant takes the 2014 Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival schooner race

New London is celebrating its nautical traditions this weekend with the Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival at City Pier, which aims to educate visitors and celebrate Connecticut’s seafaring history. Brilliant won the schooner race on Fishers Island Sound with Mystic Whaler coming in second, followed by Tyrone and Amistad.
Meanwhile, on the culinary front, Gaspar’s won The Great New London Chowder Challenge Saturday.
The Bank Street restaurant’s lobster bisque was one of 20 chowders that downtown New London restaurants offered up Saturday. The chowder challenge was part of the Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival.
