Maynard caved in to gun interests

Each of us at one time or another must make decisions that hold ourselves accountable. Let me first say that my wife and I have known state Sen. Andy Maynard for many years and wish him a full recovery.

As the election nears however, we find that we can no longer support him as we have many times before. The reason being his vote against the gun control bill that was passed last year. As former teachers in Newtown, we were appalled and shocked by his dissenting vote on the gun legislation bill. After the tragic and unimaginable loss of our young children and teachers we could not imagine anyone voting against gun control and siding with the NRA.

We could only conclude that Senator Maynard valued his seat more than the children, teachers and survivors of the Newtown massacre. That vote by Sen. Maynard showed in our opinion, a lack of compassion for the victims and their families. I had emailed Senator Maynard prior to the vote and asked him how he was going to vote. His answer was equivocating, stating that he had to digest the bill. It was clear to us that he wasn't going to support the bill and he didn't.

Thankfully the state House and Senate along with Gov. Malloy rose to the occasion and gave us a future that will be more secure while honoring the children, teachers and survivors of that horrific day.
