Escape craze has no appeal to her

I often appreciate the surprising juxtapositions in The Day. The article hyping the benefits of a raw food diet right above the feature on county fair treats. Bacon wrapped deep-fried Twinkie, anyone? Maybe just one, after I finish my carob kale smoothie.

But it's not always fun. As I read the article on the latest scare craze, escape from jail by solving puzzles for $60 bucks, "Room escape attractions growing in US," (Oct. 7), I couldn't help but think of Lashano Gilbert, arrested and Tasered in police custody and now dead. "Autopsy done on man New London police subdued with Taser; cause of death might not be known for several weeks," (Oct. 5).

For most people, being arrested and held in jail is really scary, not fun scary. The death of Michael Brown, the young, black man shot by police in Ferguson, Mo., drives that point home. Rather than going to jail for fun, I want to stand with Gilbert's family as they mourn their loss and wait for answers and look for ways to support the police in their mission to protect the public and uphold the law.
