    H.S. roundup: Ledyard wins ECC Large volleyball title

    Norwich - Ledyard High School won the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division volleyball championship on Monday with a 25-19, 25-21 and 25-12 victory over Norwich Free Academy.

    Jenny Nohara had 37 assists for the Colonels (16-1, 7-1) while Michelle Klinikowski added 31 kills and four blocks and Mariah Abstetar had 31 digs.

    Sophie Swedin had 21 assists for NFA (9-7, 2-5) while MacKenzie Burke had 13 digs, Isis Deloatch five kills and four blocks and Abby Mattern five kills and nine digs.

    In other matches:

    • Fitch rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat East Lyme 24-26, 25-20, 24-26, 25-16 and 16-14 in the ECC Large. Mae Sefransky had 34 assists, Mackenzie Aldridge 14 kills and Sofie Clark 10 kills for the Falcons (15-3, 5-2) while Brielle Benson led the Vikings (7-9, 3-4) with 14 service points and 12 digs, Alexis Bell had 25 assists and Maggy Powers 13 kills.

    • Montville outlasted Wheeler 25-20, 18-25, 25-20 and 25-15. Mia Ferguson had six kills, two blocks, 19 service points and eight aces for the Indians (3-10) while Alyssa Nissen added four kills, one block, 12 service points and six aces while Emily Dodson had four service points and two aces. Lexie Galluci led Wheeler (7-10) with five kills, five digs, 24 assists and eight aces while Chrissy McSwain added four kills and two blocks.

    • Patience Hamilton had 13 service points, two aces, one block, two kills and two digs to help Grasso Tech defeat Vinal Tech 25-13, 25-16 and 25-12 in the Constitution State Conference East Division. Keila Lastraglio added 13 service points and four aces for the Eagles (6-8, 4-4) while Mallette Ferrance had four service points, four digs and four kills.

    • Colleen Mueller had 17 digs and Casey Testa four kills in Old Lyme's 25-22, 25-15 and 25-19 loss to Coginchaug in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats are 3-14.

    Boys' soccer

    • Goals by James Foster and Jeremiah Northcutt in the first half helped East Lyme hand Montville its first loss, 2-0. Billy Bargaw made four saves in goal for the Vikings, who finish their regular season 12-1-3, while Buddy Dewaine stopped 10 shots for the Indians (10-1-4), ranked No. 3 in the lastest Class M/S state poll, is 10-1-4.

    • Connor Murphy scored three goals as Waterford cruised to a 5-0 victory over Ledyard. Brent Conderino and Dan Castelpoggi also scored goals for the Lancers (11-2-2), ranked No. 5 in the Class M/S poll, while Kevin Zeppieri, Aidin McCarthy and Tucker Wenc had assists. Jake Skilbred made 10 saves in goal for the Colonels (6-10).

    • NFA rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Killingly 2-1. Santiago Manrique, assisted by Nathan Cherenzia, tied the game at 1-1 in the first half and Matt Sylvestre scored the game winner in the 45h minute for the Wildcats (9-4-1).

    • Charles Meshama's goal with three minutes remaining gave Fitch its first win of the season, a 1-0 victory over Stonington. Christian Urena assisted for the Falcons (1-12-2) and goalie Greg Cooper made three saves for the shutout. Stonington is 4-10-1.

    • Unbeaten Bacon Academy (14-0-1), the top-ranked team in the Class M/S state poll, defeated New London 2-0 in a nonleague game. Gabe Cortorreal made five saves in goal for the Whalers (7-8).

    Girls' soccer

    • East Lyme completed an unbeaten regular season with a 2-0 victory over Montville. Theresa Durkee and Haley Ashton scored in the first half for the Vikings, who finish 15-0-1, and goalie Gabby Fiengo made three saves to earn the shutout. Stefanie Szot stopped four shots for the Indians (8-4-3).

    Swimming

    • Asia Langley won two events and was part of the winning 200-meter medley relay team as Waterford defeated Old Lyme 89-66 in a nonleage meet. Langley won the 200 free (2:19.46) and 100 free (1:05.87) for the Lancers (8-4) while Katherine Tsiouris won the diving with a personal best 193.35 points, Caitlin Henderson won the 100 butterfly (1:26.81), Meika Gathy the 400 free (5:03.03), Catherin Ward the 100 backstroke (1:22.02) and Courtney Payne the 100 breaststroke (1:37.17). Caroline Cox (200 IM, 3:01.62) and Emma Hout (50 free, 31.99) won invidiual events for Old Lyme.
