Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments gets grant

Norwich — The Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments is slated to receive $150,000 for a study and plan for regional shared services, as one of several recipients of state grants for regional planning councils announced on Tuesday.

The proposed study “would examine current activities of the region’s 19 towns, develop a comprehensive plan and model for regional shared services, staff and equipment, and identify potential cost savings that could result from implementing the plan,” according to a state news release.

The seven grants announced Tuesday, which encompass $1.25 million in total, are awarded through the state’s Regional Performance Incentive Program under the Office of Policy and Management, the release stated.

The Capitol Region Council of Governments will receive $282,400 for a regional data center; the Northeastern Connecticut Council of Governments will receive $81,750 for a pre-hospital emergency care enhancement study and $174,895 for a regional cat trap/neuter/release program; and the Northwest Hills Council of Governments will receive $249,000 for regional economic development services and $275,000 for the purchase of mobile material screeners.

The towns of Scotland, Hampton and Chaplin will also receive a grant of $36,750 for a regional school system study.
