    Young voters and midterm elections

With Election Day less than one week away, candidates are mobilizing to get their party supporters to the polls on November 4. On Wednesday morning Gov. Dannel P. Malloy admitted that his bid to win a second term will rely on his campaign’s ability to turn out voters next Tuesday.

The Day took a look at state-level data on the midterm election voter participation of the 18-29 year-old demographic, commonly referred to as the "youth vote."

In Connecticut, the voter turnout for that demographic dropped from 28.5% in 1982 to 21.6% in 2010. Voter registration for that demographic was 49.1% in 1982, rose to 55.2% in 1994, and then dropped to 45.3% in 2010.
