New London clinches playoff berth, NFA a home semifinal

New London High School unofficially qualified as the third seed in the CIAC Class M-Large Division football playoffs on Saturday.

The pairings won't be official until the CIAC football committee approves them Sunday.

The Whalers (7-3) needed either Hartford Capital/Achievement First or Griswold to win on Saturday. Both teams won.

New London will play at No. 2 Brookfield (10-2) in next Saturday’s semifinal round. All semifinals will be played that day and are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Teams may agree to play one another earlier if the host school doesn’t have lights.

Norwich Free Academy (7-2) earned the second seed in the Class LL-Large Division and a home semifinal after both Bristol Central and Cheshire lost. The Wildcats will play host to No. 3 New Britain (8-3).

Top-seeded Ledyard (11-0) will play host to No. 4 Wolcott (9-2) in a Class M-Small game.

    Top-seeded Valley Regional/Old Lyme (11-0) will play host to No. 4 Bullard-Havens (9-2) in Class S-Large.
